Asia Games Project Sacrifices Thousands Of Trees At Jakarta
Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat said his side will also widen the sidewalk along Jalan Sudirman and Jalan MH Thamrin. Djarot targeted the groundbreaking ceremony that marked the start of pedestrian expansion work in the two areas in October.
"We are targeting the expansion of the pedestrian to be completed as a whole in July 2018, so that it can be used at the Asian Games next year," Djarot said in September.
This infrastructure project prepared by DKI is sacrificing thousands of trees. Based on data from Jakarta Parks Agency, the total number of trees along the main road of DKI reaches 9,350 trees, with details of 8,771 trees on Jalan Sudirman and 579 trees on Jalan MH Thamrin.
Jakarta Provincial Government Prepares Pergub
In this context, the Provincial Government of DKI Jakarta is preparing a Governor Regulation (Pergub) on the utilization of tree felling in a number of locations in Jakarta. This is a follow up of thousands of trees cut down due to the widening of sidewalk projects along Jalan Sudirman and MH Thamrin.
"It was discussed further on the Pergub. What will [our harvestable tree] will be the auction or how? "Said Head of Jakarta Parks and Cemeteries Agency, Djafar Muchlisin when contacted by Tirto, Friday (6/10/2017).
Djafar said, in a pedestrian restoration project along Sudirman to Thamrin road, for example, there are 1670 trees to be felled. Of these, 530 of them will be transferred to Green Open Space (RTH) in Jakarta.
"One of them is in RTH Tipar Cakung that we have land cleared for about two hectares," Djafar said.
While the rest, said Djafar, will be stacked in several storage areas that have been managed by the Provincial Government of DKI. "There are some numbers, I do not memorize exactly. One of them is in the Petamburan area, "he said.
In addition to the construction and widening of sidewalks, a number of trees are also felled by the Jakarta Provincial Government due to the falling rainfall. The heavily harvested species are one of them angsana trees, while others, such as trembesi trees and teak, are only pruned on the branches and stems that have been propagating and disturbing to the utility cables.
"Essentially we do as a service citizens to remain undisturbed activity by these trees. So it's not just any kind of harvest, "he said.
Prohibition of Tree Felling
Nevertheless, Djafar said, in some places there are still many trees that are carelessly cut down by residents. Because of that, his side often check and follow up reports about illegal logging of this tree.
Djafar said that until now there are seven people who have been processed to court for trial. This is because it is a violation of public order.
"This is actually a long term rule, but there are no actions, so we try to pioneer this year with such sessions so that there will be no people cutting back trees [trees]" Djafar said.
According to Djafar, the city government does not allow people to cut trees, except in residential areas and must obtain permits.
If the felled tree is located on the front of the shop and is a Jakarta administration, then it should request a permit whose application is submitted to the One Stop Service (PTSP) Investment Service Office to request a recommendation whether the tree needs to be felled or simply cut.
If allowed to cut, said Djafar, then the concerned must replace with 10 trees with a diameter of at least 10 cm and a minimum height of 3 meters. This matter is stated in Regulation of Head of Jakarta Parking Agency Number 9 Year 2002.
