Helium Blast Balloon, 15 UMM Students to Hospital
Opening Student Day new students of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) colored incident on Saturday (7/10/2017).
A number of balloons containing helium gas erupted and injured 15 students.
Head of Public Relations of UMM, Rina Wahyu Setyaningrum said the incident coincided with the balloon cutting which marked the opening of Student Day of UMM new students.
At that time, one of the students tried to take the balloon by lit the balloon strap with a match. As a result, a number of balloons that are in a single bond that erupts when about to be flown.
Incidentally, a number of balloons in a single bond are close to the line of students of the Faculty of Economics and Business.
"When the balloon gets raised there is one student who wants to take one of the balloons by lit a balloon rope with a match, so because there is heat from a match, the balloon erupts," he said through a written statement received Kompas.com.
The eruption was accompanied by a fire that hit a number of students. There were 15 students affected by the eruption and taken to UMM Hospital for treatment.
"The eruption caused a sound and sparks that hit some students nearby, the victim was immediately rushed to UMM Hospital and found help there," he said.
